What we publish

MU Digital publishes original writing across seven sections:

  • أخبار — الأخبار والتغطيات والتقارير الصحفية.
  • مجتمع — الحياة الجامعية والمجتمع وقضايا الطلاب.
  • تعليم — التعليم والتعلم وقضايا الجامعة الأكاديمية.
  • علوم وتكنولوجيا — العلوم والتكنولوجيا والذكاء الاصطناعي والابتكار.
  • اقتصاد وريادة — الاقتصاد والأعمال وريادة الأعمال والمشروعات الطلابية.
  • ثقافة وفنون — الثقافة والفنون والكتب والأفلام والإبداع.
  • تحقيقات — التحقيقات والقصص المعمقة والصحافة القائمة على البيانات.
  • رأي — المقالات والرؤى ووجهات النظر والتحليلات.

Contributor tiers

  • Guest Writer — One-off or occasional pieces. Full editorial support provided.
  • Contributing Writer — Regular contributors with an established track record. Byline page and author RSS feed.
  • Contributing Editor — Section-level editorial input. Helps shape coverage in their area of expertise.

What we look for

  • Clear, direct prose — no jargon, no academic obscurantism
  • Original thinking — not just summaries of existing debates
  • Evidence and sourcing — claims backed by references
  • Intellectual honesty — engage the strongest version of opposing arguments
  • Relevance to the freethought tradition — broadly construed

  • Church-state separation cases and policy
  • History of freethought and secularism
  • Philosophy of religion and ethics
  • Science communication and scientific literacy
  • Religious influence on education, healthcare, and law
  • Profiles of freethinkers past and present
  • Book reviews and literary criticism
  • Personal deconversion narratives (if they illuminate broader themes)

Writing style

  • Write in the first person when appropriate — this is a publication with a voice
  • Lead with the argument, not the background
  • Use short paragraphs and clear topic sentences
  • Avoid passive voice unless it serves clarity
  • Cite sources inline or in footnotes — we use tooltip footnotes, not endnotes
  • No clickbait headlines — say what the piece argues
  • No emoji in headings or body text

Rights and compensation

MU Digital is currently a volunteer-run publication. We do not pay for contributions at this time. Contributors retain copyright and grant us a non-exclusive license to publish. You may republish your work elsewhere after 30 days.

All published work includes a byline, author bio, and permanent author page on the site.

Editorial standards

All submissions are subject to our editorial ethics policy. We fact-check claims, verify sources, and publish corrections promptly when errors are discovered. See our corrections log for examples.
